The Stone Foundries site lies in the heart of the Charlton Riverside Opportunity Area. An area that covers 122 hectors along the River Thames.
The Foundries site comprises 9.75 acres of that area. It is a former industrial site dating back to 1917, making castings for ships, and the aerospace industry even making parts for the spitfire during the war.
Our outline application proposed the comprehensive redevelopment of the site on comprising 953 residential units, 35% of which will be affordable and 7,240 sq. m of commercial space, within seven blocks, ranging from 3 to 10 storeys in height.
Several public consultation events were undertaken to engage with the local community and stakeholders. Including an event at The Valley Charlton Athletics Football Stadium. In addition to this pre-application meetings were held with the Royal Borough of Greenwich Council (RBGC), the Greater London Authority (GLA).
Our proposed scheme required a departure from the adopted Chalton Riverside Masterplan which sought to restrict the height of any development of a maximum of 5 storeys.
Working closely with the Royal Borough of Greenwich Council (RBGC), the Greater London Authority (GLA) and 9 surrounding landowners. Following a successful pre-application response from RBGC and the GLA, the site was sold.
